Race For Life

Well done to Mrs Dubash, Lily and Jessica who completed the Race for Life yesterday and raised £250 for Cancer Research UK.  The ladies completed the race in 33 minutes and dedicated their run to our wonderful friend, colleague and teacher, Mrs Cragg.

What’s been going on in our school this week?

CREATIVE CURRICULUM – TEACHING IN ROLE

Thank you staff for creating yet another amazing day of rich activities. There were some amazing lessons going on across the school. In the Nursery, Mrs Jones or should I say ‘Sam the Chef’ was creating bug pizzas. We had two Boudiccas in Year 3! Wilma from the Flintstones organised cave art in her classroom.  We feasted on marzipan cakes made by a very important Tudor lady. In Year 5 we had crazy scientists creating board games. Nurse Prytherch taught First Aid in year 6 and Flight Attendant Settle took her children on a flight. What an inspiring day!

6BP BIRD RESCUE

Class 6BP experienced some sadness on Friday 5th June. Whilst in the outdoor learning area, some children came across a baby bird with its dead mother. The children patiently fed it, placed it safe in a large container full of vegetation and researched the bird to see what else they could do to help. Hayden took it home for the night and ensured the little bird stayed warm and was regularly fed throughout the night. Sadly, when Hayden went to check up on the little bird, it had passed away. Hayden, Myles and Sebb buried the little bird. We are very proud to have such compassionate and caring children in school.

What would happen if frogs became extinct?

The children in 4SB have been researching this question for their homework and have produced some outstanding pieces of work which are thought provoking. Well done to Cameron, Lottie, Lilly, Grace and Vlad who have worked very hard this week.

School Effectiveness Grant and Pupil Deprivation Grant 2014/15

The Welsh Government has announced funding for a grant scheme to support students from poorer backgrounds in their education. The Pupil Deprivation Grant will allow schools to put in place practical help to improve the educational attainment of students from disadvantaged backgrounds, who often face greater barriers to fulfilling their potential at school. Schools will receive the money directly, and the funding will be aimed particularly at supporting literacy and numeracy. Schools will also be encouraged to track the progress of particular students, and to work with parents and community groups to improve outcomes.  At  Victoria CP School this funding (which amounts to approximately £49,446 in 2014/15) was used for a range of purposes. Staff News

Dear Parents,

This July we will be saying goodbye to some wonderful people at Victoria CP School – fantastic people who have made such an impact on the lives of your children.

Firstly, Mrs Sarah Morris-Hughes will be leaving us for a well-deserved promotion as the new Deputy Headteacher at Sant Dunawd, Bangor on Dee. Mrs Morris Hughes is an outstanding teacher who has given so much to Victoria CP School and who has done so much to help inspire the caring and compassionate ethos of our school. The staff, children and governors will sorely miss her. Sant Dunawd’s gain but our loss.

Mrs Grassby will also be leaving us and moving on to pastures new to enjoy her early retirement. Mrs Grassby is an amazing Nursery Nurse and Teaching Assistant. Her dedication, positivity and sense of humour have shone brightly in our school for many years.

Miss Hannah Davies, Teaching Assistant and After School Club Assistant will also be leaving us for pastures new. Miss Davies has worked tirelessly with many groups in school and she is highly regarded and liked by staff and pupils alike.

Mrs Debbie Wright and Mrs Amanda Watkins, who have worked with individual pupils for most of their education at Victoria CP School will also be leaving us. Both support workers have created very special bonds with their pupils and they will be sorely missed.

Congratulations to Mrs Kimberely Wright and Mrs Bronwen Prytherch who are expecting! Both will be starting their maternity leave in September. We wish you both the very best.

And finally, congratulations to Mr Hodges who will be getting married next week. We all hope you have a wonderful day.

We have three new members of staff joining our team – Miss Catrin Jones, Miss Anderton and Miss Weller. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles.

Have a great half term,

Mrs Debbie Eccles

Victoria CP Book Stall at Wrexham Street Festival

We had a brilliant day at the Street Festival yesterday. Thank you to the children who helped. Also a big thank you to all the parents who donated and recycled their children’s books. We raised a little shy of £140 and this money will be spent on new topic books for each classroom in school. Hopefully, we will be doing the same in a few months time.

Author Visit – Ceci Jenkinson

We had a fabulous visit from local author Ceci Jenkinson.  Ceci shared her writing inspirations with the children and talked through the writing and publication process. We hope Ceci will be able to work with us again soon and continue to inspire our children to write wonderful, creative stories.

Football Success!

Well done to our amazing football tean who won both their games today. You look brilliant in your new football kit. Thank you Mr Hodges for training the boys and girls!

We Celebrated Mrs Cragg’s birthday!

It was our lovely friend and colleague’s birthday today and we marked the occasion by selling ribbons and decorating ‘Sandra’s Garden’. Thank you Mrs Wright, Mrs Grassby, Mrs Turner and Mrs Jones for organising it. The money raised will go to Nightingale House.
